My dad is flying into Buffalo tonight to surprise his grandkids. They are gonna love it. Hopefully we can have the baby while he is here and won't even have to get a babysitter. He leaves on Monday and then I need to hold off until next weekend when Mom comes to spend 4 days with us. They aren't separated or anything just busy people running a farm and bed and breakfast.
Does anyone know anything that really does work to put you into labor? Last time I was having a hard time maintaining consistent 4 min apart contractions and decided to go do a temple session. It worked. We went straight from the temple to the hospital. Our temple is a little too far away this time.

Here is something that worked for me: take a LONG walk, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES submerse yourself in warm water - this will stall early labor
I've heard you can drink red raspberry leaf tea (you can get it from the care connection at Harlem and Main in Snyder), there is also a small bone on you ankle that if pressed (an it kinda hurts!) for long periods of time will start labor, "bedroom" activities really do work!
Getting a massage can push you into labor....but you have to get a full body massage! So...get some alone time with Brent and put him to work. Then let one thing lead to another! Sex can do it too. Something about the semen...sorry to be so blunt. But it's worth a try!
Obviously nothing works unless your body is ready but caster oil (mixed with OJ)worked for me. I drank it at 11 am. I also went on a brisk walk up and down a steep hill for 1/2 an hour at 1pm. By 4pm I had mild but consistent contractions and by 7pm I was having strong contractions 5 minutes apart. Oh, and we also tried what stephanie said :). Breast stimulation is supposed to release pitocin which causes contractions. Try it all!
well I read this a couple days ago and was going to say INDIAN (spicy) FOOD & SEX, but didn't want to freak anyone out... but, well hey! since it has already been mentioned, I will say that too. and one of my hippie birthing books said that "french kissing" (ew sorry for the gross term) helps dilate you during labor - not sure if it stimulates it, let us know. ha ha!
and I've also heard massages - especially ankles & feet - I think the pinky & "ring" toe in particular (ask christy) & red raspberry leaf tea are supposed to work as well...
I do think your body & baby just go when it's TIME... I was 0cm & 60% effaced at my OB appt 2 days before my due date and in labor the next day, 7cm before I even got to the hospital 24hrs later.
Hopefully you've had the baby so you won't need this info, but if not, I'll just add that nipple stimulation works. It's put me in labor twice. My OB discourages castor oil because it clears your bowels, and he's had the clearing part happen right in his face during pushing. But desperate times call for desperate measures!
My third was 2 weeks overdue, and it didn't matter WHAT I did: long walk every day, lots of lovin', squatting, Primrose Oil (put me in the hospital for an allergic reaction that turned my skin purple and closed off my throat, but hey! I tried!), massaging, nipple stim, etc. I finally got my water broken and started pitocin, and 9 hours later he was born. He was a big, fat 9 lbs. 14 oz and looked like a 3-month-old, but he was here!
GOOD LUCK!
Thank you everyone!
