Valentines '08

I have had some comments/complaints lately that Brent needs to pipe in. It is just so boring apparently when it is just me. But . . .He is sick and still going to school spreading it around. I don't think blogging is very top priority for him right now.

Valentines Day was SWEET! We have a Brent Casper family tradition of your's truly hosting a special breakfast complete with either strawberries or raspberries, decorations, goodie bags, and even presents occasionally. This year we (or the hostess anyway) were all too tired to get up in time to cook and celebrate before Brent leaves at seven a.m. so I decided on dinner instead. The kids waking up to just another morning were not happy about this. They all thought it started out as the worst V-day ever. So spoiled.
But I spent all day getting ready.
I served:

Baked Ham
Funeral Potatoes
Corn
Green Salad
Sliced oranges
Gingerale in plastic dollar store goblets
Raspberry Trifle.

Sounds like a mormon funeral doesn't it, but hey I was sick. And it sounded good and easy. - And no I didn't photograph all my beautiful dishes! We did remember a picture after we had finished trashing the table.

It was a great opportunity to gift the girl's a pair of the numerous pairs of shoes I picked up at Target in January. I wonder if they are going to get sick of every holiday being Target deals? Nah, I don't think so. Brent got a large box of Mrs. Field's Chocolates and a special love note recalling the some of the great firsts we have had over the years. Neither of us were at all interested in the chocolat that sounded so good a couple weeks ago when I bought it. That is one good thing about being sick. It sucks the appetite right out of ya. (For the first time ever at my OB appointment this week I had lost weight! )

Then the whole family piled into our bed and watched "Flawless" a Demi Moore movie Brent downloaded from his file sharing at school. Our Queen is getting really crowded lately with a pregnant woman and all our kids everytime we watch TV. The kids love it, but I am so hot already with this baby on top of me, all I need are kids packed all around me to feel like I am smothering.

Speaking of hot. . . This whole winter I have been freezing but all of a sudden I just don't even need the heat above 60 degrees to stay warm. Brent is the opposite and has been so chilled this week (mainly because he is sick) that he has started sleeping with my blowdryer. I get woke up several times a night lately because the blowdryer is blowing under our covers again. Meanwhile I am sleeping with a sheet and throwing all the blankets on top of him. We really need our own beds to get through the final weeks of pregnancy and his flu.

Today is a Beautiful SNOWY, Stay at Home Day. I insisted on Brent taking the car because that insures that no one can coerce me into going anywhere all day. That is really my favorite thing to just stay home. I have so much to do, and if I don't have the energy to do it I can always read my latest book, "Crime and Punishment" or even take a nap. I hear so many women complain about feeling so cooped up all winter. I really have never had this feeling. I love to shop and go out but I am so content to just be home. My kids are also not the type to get cabin fever. But Next week is Early Spring Recess and the entire week they have no school. I might feel different after having them all home with me for that long. Who ever heard of Spring Break and Early Spring Break? Who knows, it may be fun - but it is sure to be a disruption to the perfect l peace I experience on mornings like this when Caroline watches PBS Kids and I just sit at the computer.

What about an electric blanket that you can regulate on your side and his side. I think they sell those now.

Sorry, I just can't get over the blow dryer=)!! Can't you make an exception on the heat when you have sickos in the house???? William is sick of me telling him all the time what you have your heat set on (this is his first real winter coming from Australia and let's just say he's been freakin' freezin'!) in an effort to convince him we do not have to keep the home feeling like Florida over here.

I can't believe you keep it at 60. Jeremy and I feel chilly when ours is set at 69. I always remind him of you and your 60 and he stops complaining. Are you going to bump it up for the baby's arrival or bundle him like a snowball?

HA HA HA HA
the blow dryer sentence killed me.
I am still laughing!

(amen to all the other comments.)

I hope you guys get better ASAP - enjoy next week! they probably have those breaks so families can go on trips to warm places since we are in for at LEAST 3 more months of cold up here...

We turn it up when ever we want, we really are not that strict. But as a rule it is usually hovering just above 60. (usually when brent is home that's when it goes up) Babies don't need it any warmer as long as they are covered (or so the man says)

I like your blogs - just you is fine by me (although I'm not saying I don't like hearing from Brent, I'm just saying it's not necessary). An option for keeping Brent warm is to make a rice sack. You can sew one up really quick or even use an old sock, fill it with rice and tie or sew the end shut. a few minutes in the microwave and you've got some good heat for 30 mins or more. you can also use cherry pits and then your room will smell like cherry pie (yum!). Good toe warmers for sure.

the rice sock is also good for easing lower back pain, shoulder pain and even labor pain. I was so glad I had mine when I was in labor.

GOOOOO RICE! (or cherry pits - clean cherry pits)

I think that we must have a lot in common, last year when I was pregnant I kept the heat at 62 during the day and 58 at night. This year I keep it at 64 during the day and 60 at night. Mostly because I am to cheap to turn it up but at this point in the winter I think I have climatized and am used to it. I hope you all get feeling better.

You are lucky you don't get cabin fever. I love being home all day, too. Shopping gets old, esp. if I don't have anything specific I'm going for, or there isn't good Target Clearance! But, I do desperately miss being able to send the kids outside to play, and getting some fresh air myself without having to bundle up from head to toe (and have a huge pile of wet snow clothes to deal with afterward).

Hey! I put my blog on private, so email me so I can send you an invite:
