Resolutions 2009

Sunday night we told all the kids that they needed to come prepared to Family night with their resolutions for the new year. They needed one goal each in these categories.
Physical Fitness, Spiritual, Academic, Talent

Caroline came up with one. Learn to do a somersault.

Camille almost hit each category. Here's her list:

"Wake up every morning and run" (Where? that is the question. I asked her about how that goal was coming along this morning and she said that there was too much snow)
"Eat Bread and Water and other stuff" (This is her spiritual goal. We were all confused, but her only explanation is bread and water are sacrament food and thus spiritual. And she had no explanation for the other stuff.)
"Draw one thing a day" (She is planning on being a famous artist one day and has a pretty good start.)

Savannah was the most prepared in each category. She loves schedules so her goals were all broken down accordingly.
Get up every morning at 6 a.m. and . . .
read the New testament for 10 minutes
practice handstands for 5 minutes,
read the Book of Mormon 10 minutes,
10 minutes solving math problems,
15 minutes of Ballet,
Then finally 10 minutes Suessical practice!!!!!!!!
She has been very faithful all week waking up at 6 with her alarm but quite frustrated that she keeps running out of time before the bus.

Kennon's goals were a little vague . . .I can't even remember what they are. Probably something like - 3 blog posts a week. :) The thing is . . She's all that, already.

Brent and I are following Savannah's example and keeping pace with her in our New Testament reading. We both decided we would work out 30 minutes on the elliptical at least 3 times a week. And as talents this year I am focusing on piano -so I will play it for 30 min five times a week. Brent is going to take up golf again with the goal of learning to drive straight.

No one knows it yet but I am adding one more for us all. I've always had a master shopping list that has all our staples and when I go shopping I just print it out and circle the items we are low on. We make pretty healthy choices overall but we can do a lot better. My new master shopping list was printed from The World's Healthiest Foods.com. That will be the basis for Casper Family meals 2009. I am excited. Savannah is going to hate it.
We are going to see a lot less white rice, pasta, flour on our table. Basically if it is an empty calorie I am going to try to stay far away from it. Eating healthier (tons of fruits and veggies and lean meats) can be expensive but I plan on including lots of inexpensive healthy foods like beans and grains.
Someone in our ward gave us several buckets of whole wheat when we first moved here. They are probably over 20 years old, but working for us just fine.

Kashann,

As always, you had me chuckling as I read your blog! Your kids are hilarious!

I, too, have a "healthy eating" goal this year--not just cutting sweets, but focusing on eating food that is BETTER for me with vitamins, fiber, and other healthy stuff in it.

Do you have the Jessica Seinfeld "Deceptively Delicious" cookbook? She uses vegetable purees and sneaks them into normal recipes, and her kids don't eve notice. Tiffany Cardon gave me the cookbook about a month ago because I was telling her how much I wish I didn't hate vegetables, and Ry and I have really enjoyed several of the recipes.

You and I should talk and swamp ideas/recipes for healthier eating!

Oh...and I am going to be sitting with the CTR 9/10/11 class on Sunday during sharing time (I guess there's a teacher training meeting or something?), so I hope I get to witness you leading the songs! I promise I won't run up and whisper my advice in your ear! :)

our favorite pasta is the Ronzoni Healthy Harvest stuff. It is chock full of fiber and it tastes great. It comes in multi-grain or whole wheat. You should try it.

I like all the goals...but Brent's golfing "goal" sounds more like a hobby instead. My goal for 2009: pedicures every week. heehee
