Bribery

Kashann has been busy . . . Shopping.

In January I am obsessed with hitting every single store every single week. Don't want to miss a markdown. It is like my favorite thing to do ever. Good thing prices aren't this low year round or I would be in serious trouble. Target has some especially low toy prices and K B Toys is going out of business. I brought home a $7.48 kids acoustic guitar, originally $29.99, showed it to Brent, then shoved it in the closet for some future present for the kids. Next thing I know he is down in the living room playing it, didn't even ask. He played guitar all MLK weekend. I should've saved it for his birthday next month. I had no idea it was on his wish list.

Besides, stocking away for birthdays and Christmas. . . What else do I do with all the great deals I haven't been able to resist?

I decided to start my own store. Seriously. It's up in my room and all the items are priced to sale. My girls can earn a point a day for keeping the following family rules.

Practice instruments 5 times a week for 30 minutes
Clean room before school and before bed
In bed on time- 7:45 upstairs girls, and 8:40 downstairs girls
No Fighting (it's verbal in our house)
No Back Talk
Don't leave anything out in the family room at night
Hang up stuff when you come home from school
No Whining

I think this pretty much covers all my grievances lately. This doesn't include daily jobs that they all have around the house. It's a given that they will be doing those also since they aren't allowed to whine or talk back.

The store is open for business once a week. We had a grand opening this morning as I unveiled a few items available for purchase as soon as they earn enough. It was just as exciting as I had hoped. We haven't had a lot of peace in our home at times lately and I am crossing my fingers that this idea works. Kennon really loves new clothes. She's gonna need them soon enough anyway, she's growing so fast -I am now buying her size 8 shoes and she's in the very last size for girls jeans. . . She's going to be in my closet before I know it, so why not make her earn them?

Really there are two reasons I am doing this. I love to shop and need an excuse AND I need a fresh idea to promote peace in our home. Parenting is all about fresh ideas. Nothing works for ever. Whenever I hit a dead end, I just have to come up with something new. Never give up on them.

Good idea Kashann. I want to see what you bought. I also noticed that sales weren't near as good this year. Old Navy had a huge selection last year for the "75% of clearance items," but this year they only did 50% and there was squat to chose from.

I agree. I was very dissappointed in Old Navy yesterday. Maybe next week.

oooh. i like the shopping idea. my problem is if they didn't earn the point or dollar or whatever, they'd cry or harrass me about it nonstop till i regretted the whole thing.
